The second reason this movie didn't meet my expectations is because Johnny Depp didn't live up to my expectations as the Mad Hatter. He often sounded more like Captain Jack Sparrow than the Mad Hatter. Sometimes he filled the role perfectly, but more often than not throughout the movie I was disappointed.
The second movie I saw was Remember Me. Go ahead and laugh, but it was really good, and in my opinion, worth the seven dollars I spent to watch it. The show is surprisingly tragic, but leaves you to think about what is really important in your life. The acting in it is phenomenal, which surprised me because the guy that plays Edward in Twilight is the main actor, and I never really thought he was a very good actor. The whole reason I went to see it is because the guy that plays Homer Hickham's dad in October Sky was the girl's dad in this show. The movie strongly supports the importance of a strong family unit and what happens if something goes wrong when you don't have one. In this case, the something is a death in each family eleven years prior to when the show takes place. The real story isn't the love between the girl and boy, but more putting families back together after eleven years of pain from the deaths.
So, my star rating for each....
Alice In Wonderland: 3 stars
Remember Me: 4 stars
Realize that this is Chelsea standards, not critics standards, so the star ratings are probably a lot higher than they would be if a critic were to rate each film.
I just barely saw Alice in Wonderland, and I would have to agree. Although I WISH it were good! There are some movies that are bad, that I am happy are bad, because I didn't expect much from them in the first place. But I felt that there wasn't enough structure to the plot. Which, granted, it is supposed to be warped and have no structure and whatnot, because it is Wonderland, but it just felt like it didn't progress smoothly, or something. Also, the Mad Hatter is supposed to be scottish! And being a scottish-snob, I wish that Johnny Depp's accent was more consistent. (I really do love Johnny Depp, but I wasn't as pleased with him in this movie).
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Remember Me, yet. But it is interesting that that family unit is actually the backbone of the story, because from the previews it just looks like a dramatic chick flick. I'm glad to hear it isn't. I like your movie ratings!
