Ready, Set, November 3

I'm so excited for this show to start up again.

Why?  Because of how the last season ended.

This was actually the second to last episode, but it really felt like the season finale.

And here's what I'm looking forward to!

Over Identifying

I watched this episode of Bones tonight.  I cried... a lot.

"People assume that when you're alone you must be lonely.  Like most assumptions it's erroneous."

"Do you think I've gone nuts?"

"You're not alone in this world."

Dating is More Like Baseball than Volleyball...

I wish that dating were like a volleyball game.  You call "mine" and everyone backs off and lets you have the ball.  The game is pretty straight forward.  Server serves the ball, people call mine, and go back and forth until the ball falls on either side of the court.

Baseball, on the other hand, is more complicated.  The pitcher has the ball and has to think really hard on what pitches fool the batter.  The batter watches and works so they can hit the ball.  They fight over who wins: will the pitcher get the kill or the batter the base?  And if the ball is hit, then, as a pitcher, you have to rely on teammates to back you up and not make mistakes so you don't lose the base to the batter.

Hannah gives Booth a phone.
Booth: Thanks!
Hannah & Brennan: You're welcome!
Brennan looks sad and gets up.
Brennan: See you tomorrow...
Hannah: No, stay!
Booth: Yeah, I can make my famous mac and cheese.
Brennan: No.  Traditionally when two people share a domicile for the first time, the person who doesn't leaves.  See you tomorrow.

That's how I felt tonight.

Side Effects

I like to watch House M.D., but if I watch too much of it then I become a jerk without a cause.  I love to watch Bones, but if I watch too much of it I become an analytical nightmare.  What happens when I watch both too much in one day?  I've yet to find out, and don't think I want to.  So, just remind me once in awhile when I'm on a Bones or House kick not to watch both in one day.

Twinkly Eyes

PEROTTA: You've worked with Booth for a while now, right?

BRENNAN: Mmm hmm

PEROTTA: Is he the kind of guy that, uh, you know, I... Is he flirty?

BRENNAN: Flirty?

PEROTTA: Would you say he twinkles his eyes at all women?

BRENNAN: Twinkly eyes actually result when the pupils dilate very wide which is an unconscious result of intense interest or sexual attraction.

PEROTTA: So, no, he doesn't twinkle at everyone?

BRENNAN: No.

PEROTTA: All right.

So now if you are talking to someone and you see their eyes twinkle, you know why.  This is why I love Bones.

All About Swings

Angela Montenegro: Childhood should be all about swings. 
Dr. Jack Hodgins: Swings? 
Angela Montenegro: You know, how high can I go, if I twist the chains how fast will I spin. 
Dr. Jack Hodgins: Or if I try and jump off before the swing stops. 
Angela Montenegro: Exactly. 
Dr. Jack Hodgins: I miss that feeling. 
Angela Montenegro: Yeah me too. 
Dr. Temperance Brennan: I miss organic chemistry class, those were good times. 
Zack Addy: I miss my first microscope. 
Special Agent Seeley Booth: Great, yeah and I miss normal people. Can we go on? 


Every time I see this part of this particular episode of Bones, I feel bubbly inside.  There's a reason this is my favorite television show.  It speaks a lot of truth about my life.  Although I am a lot like Temperance, I find myself connected to Angela in ways like this.  Although I miss all the word games and puzzles that I did throughout my childhood, the one thing that I distinctly remember is the swings.  


Megan, Dylan, and I would swing as high as we could and kick off our shoes one at a time to see how far we could get them to fly; the one with the shoe that went the farthest would win the game.  We each had certain techniques that we would "patent" so nobody else could use them without permission.  Mine was tighter shoes and tape on my feet.  


Sometime after the conversation quoted above, Hodgins takes Angela on a date.  He takes her to a park, and they swing, doing all the things that they talked about in that conversation.  It was beautiful to me, and I've always thought, after seeing that episode, that the guy that would be that creative for a first date was the worth another dating experience.  Sure, it may sound sappy and ridiculous, but that's what life's about, isn't it?  The reason people watch movies is because they want to feel the way those two people feel in that movie, even just for a small moment, so why can't we just make it a reality?
